Concept
Sohtoshu Toukouji Temple, established in around 1430, requested us to design the reception hall at the entrance. Traditionally, as a symbol of awe and dignity, Buddha statues are isolated or hidden, however, the owner requested a space for people to appreciate the Buddha. The open space with natural light, fan-shape wall with painting, and low podium for the statue all encourage social gathering or quiet time of conversation shared with Buddha.
